Blessed

Matthew 5: 1-12
1And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him. 2And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

3Blessed are the poor in spirit (destitute of wealth of learning and intellectual culture which the schools afford, men of this class most readily give themselves up to Christ's teaching and proved them selves fitted to lay hold of the heavenly treasure) for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted. It doesn’t say that you must always be joyful and praising the Lord.

5Blessed are the meek (Gentleness or meekness is the opposite to self-assertiveness and self-interest. It stems from trust in God's goodness and control over the situation. The gentle person is not occupied with self at all. This is a work of the Holy Spirit, not of the human will (Gal 5:23) for they shall inherit the earth.

6Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness (state of him who is as he ought to be, the condition acceptable to God - integrity, virtue, purity of life, rightness, correctness of thinking feeling, and acting) for they shall be filled.(satisfied)

7Blessed are the merciful (bringing someone relief from something unpleasant) for they shall obtain mercy. (compassion shown by one person to another)

8Blessed are the pure (sincere, genuine) in heart for they shall see God

9Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God.

10Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' (integrity, virtue, purity of life, rightness, correctness of thinking feeling, and acting) sake for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

12Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

  1. Brother Cliff,

You brought tears to my eyes, this was like the first day I read it from the word and it had meaning. Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and the righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

  3. I have 6 1/2 years of college and it still means nothing... I am nothing without HIM! There is so much truth, takes more than a lifetime to understand yet even a child can understand.

Who is like you O L-RD?
My soul will rejoice in you,
    The G-d of my salvation,
All my heart cries out to you,
    who is like You, L-RD!
    gracious and compassionate,
    You are, my loving Father!
Who is like you, O L-rd, my G-D!
